A police investigation is underway, and officers are asking any witnesses, or anyone with relevant CCTV footage, to get in touch.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “It’s beyond belief that anyone would be callous and cruel enough to damage a war memorial. The fact there have been two incidents makes it even more shocking. Please, if you have any information that could identify those responsible, get in touch with us right away.”
