A York tour guide has been enjoying success with virtual tours of the city.
Now John Wright is presenting a new way for Covid hit attractions to promote what they offer to visitors.
John currently has five different short tours of the city, in partnership with HeyGo. The tours kicked off at the end of March and have proved to be a hit – with 3000 bookings already.
The virtual tours offer visitors the opportunity to experience York from the comfort of their armchair.
The trips are streamed live and travellers can chat with the guide throughout the tour. The tours are free to join but viewers can choose to leave a tip!
However, John feels there is masses of potential to do more.
“Since a typical digital tour is only 30 to 45 minutes there is loads of scope to do more. It would be great to showcase our great museums, cultural institutions, independent shops and hospitality businesses.”
With the rise in popularity of the staycation, the tours have been popular with visitors from the UK.
However, there are also many international travellers on the tours with Canada, USA, Italy, Germany and Spain having the highest number of attendees.
John said, “More and more I am getting comments and reviews from people saying that having experienced a tour online that they plan to visit the city.”
John would love to use the platform to help promote other businesses in the city and across Yorkshire.
“Until now everything has been outdoor tours, but it would be fantastic to do some indoor video streams highlighting the fabulous attractions York and Yorkshire has on offer.
I’d love to hear from any business that would like to showcase their experience to virtual travellers from the UK and around the world.”
John plans to offer other tours around Yorkshire over the summer. He operates under the brand Instagrammable York Tours.
