What’s better than a Christmassy walk with your furry friend?
One that’s for a good cause, of course!
The Wilberforce Trust, York Rotary Club and the York, Harrogate & District Branch of RSPCA have teamed up to create the Santa Paws festive dog walk around the Knavesmire, on Sunday 5 December.
Dogs will be invited to bring their owners along in Christmassy outfits. There will be prizes for the best dressed dog, child and owner which will be awarded by William Wilberforce (the great, great, great, great grandson of the William Wilberforce).
The event will be hosted by YorkMix Radio – breakfast presenter Laura will be there with her adorable dog Dwight!
The walk will take place on the walking track around York Racecourse, which is two miles long (3.3km).
Families and individuals and their dogs are welcome, as well as anyone without dogs who just wants to get involved with the fun and support these great causes.
Sign-ins will be from 10.30am, with the walk commencing at 11.
“In a collaborative effort to raise funds this Christmas, we organised a Santa Paws walk on York Knavesmire,” Jane Carter from the Wilberforce Trust told Ben and Laura on YorkMix Radio.
“People will come along with their dogs preferably, or maybe their pet cats – or anything with paws!
“We will have music, we’ll have YorkMix, we will have all sorts of goodies going on.
“So hopefully, people will really want to come and bring their dogs and have a fun time!”
There will also be refreshments available to purchase on the day, such as mince pies, hot chocolate and mulled wine.
To sign up for Santa Paws, head over to the Race Best website here. There are 200 places available – so perhaps enter sooner rather than later.
It costs £5 to enter, with children under five and dogs going free. Donations can also be made via the Santa Paws JustGiving page.
