The owners of a holiday park near York said the closure of the café came completely out of the blue.
As YorkMix reported last week, the Millers Tearoom, based at Hollicarrs Holiday Park at Escrick, shut its doors suddenly on Wednesday.
The closure came as a surprise to the people who run Hollicarrs Holiday Park – which is a completely separate company, part of the Escrick Park Estate and trading as normal.
Manager of Escrick Park Estate, Beilby Forbes Adam, said the Millers café appeared to be thriving. “It seemed to be doing really good trade,” he said.
“It was good for local residents, and for holiday home owners and visitors.
“We had a good relationship with them. So it’s really sad.”
The closure “came completely out of the blue. They gave us a call that morning to let us know what was happening,” Mr Forbes Adam said.
Millers Tearoom at Hollicarrs is part of a small chain of cafes, all of which have closed their doors for the last time.
A social media post said: “We tried our absolute hardest but unfortunately with the rising costs in hospitality and multiple lockdowns that got in our way it’s left us no choice but to close down all three businesses.”
Hollicarrs now has bookings flowing in for Easter and the summer months but no café. Mr Forbes Adam said it would be “wonderful” to get a new tenant to re-open the café at the site as soon as possible
“We’re really keen and interested to hear from anyone who would like to take on the cafe and keep it thriving, and hopefully retain the team,” he said.
