Arriva buses will soon be running again in Yorkshire after a union agreed to call off the latest strike.
Services between York and Selby and across the region have been halted by the walkout by staff, which began again today (Wednesday).
That followed a 53.7 per cent vote to reject Arriva’s latest pay offer by union Unite’s members.
However, this lunchtime Unite Yorkshire said they were suspending the bus strike from Friday (15 July) as ‘an act of good faith’.
In a statement, the union said: “Following the resumption of the industrial action, Unite has received assurances from senior managers at Arriva that a new substantial offer, which could be sufficient to resolve the dispute, was being prepared.
“Negotiations will begin on Friday.”
Unite regional officer Phil Bown said: “As an act of good faith Unite will suspend strike action from this Friday. This should give sufficient space and time for a new offer to be negotiated.”
Arriva Yorkshire are yet to comment on the development.
Arriva Yorkshire say: “We can confirm that Unite have agreed to suspend strike action across Yorkshire whilst we return to talks on a pay offer for Yorkshire members.
“Services will operate as normal from Friday 15th July and any further strike action will have 14 days’ notice.”
