A new list of the UK’s best villages has been published, and a unique North Yorkshire settlement makes the cut.
The Telegraph has just compiled Britain’s 30 Greatest Villages, where their travel experts have chosen their favourite unspoilt villages from the north of Scotland to the tip of Cornwall.
And coming in at number two in the list is – Hutton-le-Hole.
The beautiful spot in the North York Moors National Park is famous for its sheep, which wander free and graze on the verges next to the beck.
It is also home to the Ryedale Folk Museum, celebrating and showcasing rural life through the ages.
“Hutton-le-Hole combines its good looks – pillowy village green, white picket fences, babbling beck, creeper-covered cottages – with a firm sense of reality,” says the Telegraph.
“Sheep graze the greens, volunteers help at the Ryedale Folk Museum, and the village hall organises community events (the annual duck race is a favourite).”
The article recommends the Barn Tea Room for refreshments, and Burnley Country House, a Georgian B&B, as a place to stay.
“Watch chocolates being made at The Chocolate Factory, find hand-turned wood items, glassware and jewellery at Greenwood Crafts, pick up picnic treats from The Old School House Deli and Bakery or, on sunny days, relax with a drink outside The Crown Inn,” the Telegraph adds.
