The EU referendum is finally here and the country is making history.

A steady stream of people have been making their way to York’s polling stations to make a monumental decision for Britain today (June 23).

As the sun came out this morning so too did voters, creating high spirits among polling station tellers who were happy to see the good early turnout.

Polling day brings to an end a long and vigorously fought campaign, which has seen activists from both sides campaign on York’s streets.

We visited several polling stations in the city and can report they were busy with voters of all ages.

Polling stations remain open until 10pm tonight. Find out where to vote here.
