‘Bright and quirky’ new shop to open on Coney Street

A new shop opening in the heart of York looks set to make this year’s Back To School shopping much more fun.

The colourful Smiggle stationery store is due to open in Coney Street on Friday, August 26, giving young shoppers a few days to stock up their pencil cases.

Smiggle is an Australian brand which first came to Britain in 2014. The York branch, just few doors up from City Screen, will be its 68th to open in this country.

Smiggle – “where a smile meets a giggle” – sells bright and quirky things that appeal to a younger audience – everything from backpacks to headphones, notebooks to games.

Smiggle MD John Cheston said:

We’re thrilled to be opening our 68th store here in York. There really is nothing like Smiggle anywhere else on the high street – and it will be great to see the public’s reaction when the doors open on the 26th August.
 
It’s important for us to inject fun into everything we do – from product design to store design, we will always focus on delivering to our fans the most original and playful stationery possible.

Products are focused on “bold colour, quirky graphics, good value and innovation”. Scented stationery, gadgets and gizmos are on sale, and the store plans some “giveaways and bundles of creative fun” for the opening.
