A car burst into flames on a York bridge this afternoon (Saturday).
It happened on Lendal Bridge at about 2.45pm.
A fire crew has now put out the fire, which has destroyed the front of the four-door car.
The vehicle pulled over close to the Aviva building on that side of the bridge.
Lendal Bridge has been closed to traffic and pedestrians while emergency services, including a fire engine and three police vans, are on scene.
People on foot are being directed to Ouse Bridge to cross the river. Traffic in the city centre is very heavy owing to Lendal Bridge being shut.

North Yorkshire Police posted on Faceboook: “In case you’re wondering why traffic is heavy in York right now…
“We’re at the scene of a car which has caught fire on Lendal Bridge.
“If you’re driving, please avoid that location.
“We’re working with our Fire & Rescue Service colleagues to get things sorted – no one’s believed to have been injured.”
Two people, believed to be the occupants of the car, are on the scene with the emergency services.
