A Level students at Bootham School have been celebrating some excellent results today. With 71% of grades at B and above, there have been some outstanding individual results.
Charlie Thornton, who will study Natural Sciences at Cambridge from September was awarded four A* grades. Lara Webster, who is off to Newcastle to study Medicine achieved 3* grades out of 3, while Milly Baker, Gordon Cam, Rachel King, Ren Tse and Vincent Yang each gained 2 A* grades, as well as A grades in their other subjects. In all, 13 students achieved nothing less than an A grade.
Results in the Extended Project Qualification were also notable, with 11 A* and 6 A grades awarded out of 23 entries.
Retiring Headmaster Chris Jeffery said “considering that this group of students suffered from considerable interruption to crucial years of their education, and in particular taking into account the fact that they did not sit any exams at all throughout their GCSE years, they deserve huge credit of the great results that so many of them have achieved this summer.
The fact that grades are now back to pre-pandemic levels despite the impact of those two years is questionable to say the least. In the light of that, these results have particular value.”
“As always, the grades don’t tell the whole story. We have a good number of students who have battled real adversity in addition to the impact of Covid to achieve results that really do them proud. Too often such students get overlooked if they don’t get the top grades, but their achievements are just as impressive and valued.”
