Booked! Michael Palin to headline York Literature Festival – and he’s only one of the star names

Some big names are coming to York next year courtesy of the York Literature Festival – and none bigger than this man.

Organisers have revealed that Michael Palin is to headline the festival next March.

As well as being one of the Monty Python team who changed comedy forever, Michael went on to co-write and star in Ripping Yarns with Terry Jones, before becoming the nation’s favourite travelling companion with Around the World in 80 Days, Pole to Pole and Full Circle.

Film credits included collaborations with fellow Pythons Terry Gilliam – including Time Bandits and Brazil – and John Cleese – A Fish Called Wanda and Fierce Creatures.

His many publications include the novel Hemingway’s Chair, Bert Fegg’s Nasty Book for Boys and Girls, and three best-selling volumes of diaries. Michael was made a BAFTA Fellow in 2013.

He will be in conversation with Robert Ross at the event at the Grand Opera House at 7pm on Saturday March 18, 2017: more details.

Mark Gatiss

Mark and an old friend

The writer and star of two of the BBC’s biggest shows, Doctor Who and Sherlock, Mark Gatiss is also heading to the York Literature Festival.

Mark first came to prominence as one of the writer-performers of the award-winning comedy troupe The League of Gentlemen.

He will be in conversation with Robert Ross at the Grand Opera House at 3pm on Saturday March 18, 2017: more details.

Sue Perkins

With the other half of their double act Mel Giedroyc, Sue helped make The Great British Bake-Off the most watched show on television.

She has created the acclaimed travel documentary The Mekong River with Sue Perkins, hosts new shows Insert Name Here and Spelling Bee and is a regular on Have I Got News For You and QI.

Sue’s hilarious Sunday Times No. 1 best-selling memoir Spectacles has been a hit with readers and critics alike. She’ll be at York Theatre Royal at 7.30pm on March 22, 2017: more details.
