Lendal Bridge was sealed off by police yesterday morning as they carried out the recovery operation.

Fire crews and an ambulance were also called to the scene, and the York Rescue Boat was mobilised.

Museum Street was closed for just under one hour to allow the body to be removed.

The sad news comes a week after we reported on some of the ideas to make York’s rivers safer from the city’s new water safety forum.
