Officers searching for missing York man Joseph Cafferkey have sadly found a body.
Police attended the River Ouse near the Blue Bridge in York at 12pm today. The body of a man was recovered.
He has not yet been formally identified, but Mr Cafferkey’s family have been informed.
Mr Cafferkey, 72, of Dijon Avenue, Acomb, was last heard from on 30 September, when he spoke to a neighbour on his landline.
Police carried out extensive searches, including house-to-house, CCTV and regular hospital, transport and financial checks. They also used a drone.
They said he had suffered a fall and was treated by paramedics a few days before his disappearance.
Concerns grew as it became clear he had no mobile phone or money with him.
As we reported earlier today, emergency services were called to the River Ouse at lunchtime. York Rescue Boat was also called out.
The path near the Blue Bridge was closed while the operation to recover the body was carried out.
