Updated: Body found in recycling bin in North Yorkshire village

An investigation was launched today (Friday) after a body was discovered in a recycling bin in a village near the North Yorkshire coast.
Police and other emergency services went to the scene at Scalby, near Scarborough.
Someone using the bin made the grim discovery.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police were contacted at 6am today (Friday 17 March) by a member of the public, who reported finding a body in a recycling bin in Scalby, Scarborough.
“Police, fire and ambulance services attended and are currently at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing, but officers do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances around the incident.”
They then issued a 1pm update:
“The scene in Scalby, Scarborough where a man’s body was found in a clothing recycling bin early this morning (Fri 17 March), has now been closed down.
“There are no suspicious circumstances around the man’s death and a file has been passed to the coroner.
“The man’s family have been made aware and are being supported by officers.”
