Plans for a block of 86 student flats – which once councillor said would see people “cramped into teeny tiny rooms” – are set to be approved.
The scheme in the former Plumbase in Fawcett Street was due to be decided at a meeting in April, but councillors deferred the decision because they were worried about the size of the flats.
They also had worries about arrangements for students moving in and out of the flats, the impact of demolition and construction traffic on neighbours including Fishergate Primary School and the loss of an employment site.

The plans are now set to go back to a planning meeting on Thursday.
There has been no change to the number of flats in the building – but the council’s planning team has set out some conditions for the developer.
Drop off appointments for students moving in and out of apartments must be booked as a time slot, construction deliveries will take place outside peak times and extra leisure space would be created in the reception area.
The studio rooms will be 21sqm to 28sqm in size. The planning team says rooms at Foss Studios at 32 Lawrence Street and the Samuel Tuke Apartments at 37 Lawrence Street have rooms at “just below 20sqm per studio”.
They add: “It is understood these facilities have been close to 100 per cent occupancy each year since opening.”
