Ooh, missus! The Lord Mayor of York struck his best Frankie Howerd pose ahead of a new production of Up Pompeii.

The Lord Mayor Cllr Dave Taylor will celebrate his birthday in style, when he is guest of honour at the opening night of the Ebor Players’ production.

Up Pompeii

Bishopthorpe Village Hall

Thurs May 18-Sat May 20 @ 7.30pm

£10

More details

No, titter ye not, the Lord Mayor is a self-confessed Frankie Howerd fan.

He joined the cast in April at a photo shoot to coincide with the late star’s 100th birthday celebration.

Frankie Howerd was born in York and lived the early part of his life here. Last year, actor Mark Addy, alongside the Lord Mayor, unveiled a plaque installed on the comedian’s childhood home in Hartoft Street.

Fancy dress prizes

The Ebor Players chose Up Pompeii to pay tribute to the late star and the show features all the characters from the TV series romping through Pompeii with lots of innuendo, jokes a-plenty in true ‘Frankie’ style.

Seating will be cafe-style with the opportunity to purchase wine and food. The players are also encouraging people to dress up in their ‘Roman finery’ and there will be a prize each night for the best dressed Roman or slave!
