The opening date for a new store opening at Monks Cross has been revealed.
Sports retailer Decathlon UK will open its York store at noon on Thursday (27 October).
And the first 100 visitors to the new store will be gifted a Decathlon goodie bag with a £10 gift card and “a few other surprises”.
YorkMix revealed the world’s largest sports retailer was coming to the former Debenhams store in Monks Cross back in March.
Decathlon York will stock ranges for 70 different sports over two floors of the new store. This includes sports clothing, equipment, accessories and a workshop for product repairs.
Bosses say it will “help to inject millions into the local economy, as well as creating 20 jobs for York residents with a passion for sport”.
The store leader at Decathlon York is Roddy Pustoc’h. He said: “We’re delighted to be opening a brand new store in the vibrant and sporty city of York.
“Our mission is to help make sport more accessible for the many. From hiking and cycling to football and skiing, we have innovative products expertly designed by our team in France, with prices that will appeal to everyone.
“We’ve recruited a local team of sports experts to advise and assist customers on their journey both in terms of finding the perfect sporting solution and also where best to practise that sport in and around York.”
It will stock products from the Second Life range, sports equipment repaired by Decathlon so that they can be reused by customers and reduce waste.
