There are big moves in the pipeline for stores at Monks Cross Shopping Park.

Plans are now in for the big Hobbycraft store to move into the empty unit next to River Island.

The crafting supplies shop is moving from its position in the south-east corner to its new home in front of the Costa Coffee café.

It comes ahead of plans for the creation of a huge new B&M store in that corner.

Permission was granted by City of York Council last March for B&M to take over units 1, 1A, 2 and 2A near Primark. This would create a store with 34,000 sq ft of retail space (3,171 sq m).

Two of the units, which previously housed Poundland and Hays Travel, are vacant. Once Hobbycraft has moved, it will allow work to begin on the B&M superstore, complete with garden centre.

Meanwhile, Hobbycraft is asking for permission to install its white and pink store sign on its new home – unit 14.

You can see the application here.
