RIP Long Boi – you would have loved this delicious donut.
Our city is still coming to terms with the news that legendary duck Long Boi has been officially declared dead by the University of York, after a period of two months with no sighting.
Tributes poured in for the famous wildfowl, who was beloved by many – and Doe Bakehouse has created a donut in Long Boi’s memory.
The bakehouse had a donut for Long Boi when he was declared missing last week. But after the tragic news was revealed, a new donut has been made.
“Today is a very sad day,” posted Doe Bakehouse on social media. “We’ve just made this little tribute for you and spreading the message to those who didn’t know and have been invested.”
The Long Live Long Boi donut is flavoured with vanilla, with RIP in icing and with an edible paper Long Boi on top.
In Long Boi’s honour, you have to give your best quack to order one. Get them before they’re gone!
The mallard-Indian runner cross first appeared on the Heslington campus in 2019, and went viral – even featuring on Greg James’s BBC Radio 1 show and James Corden’s The Late Late Show in the US.
And in a very different tribute, artist Katie Fleming has shared her terrific tarot card painting of Long Boi:
She wrote: “May he rest in peace and be remembered with fondness and joy.”
