Arson attack at Ripon Cathedral – Police investigating
Police are investigating a suspected arson attack on one of North Yorkshire’s most glorious historic buildings.
The attack on Ripon Cathedral was reported this morning (Tuesday).
Fire crews were called to the ancient structure this morning when someone smelled smoke.
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: “We were alerted to a suspected attempted arson incident at Ripon Cathedral at around 10.40am today.
“Thankfully there were no injuries and no damage caused.
“An investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”

Grade I listed, Ripon Cathedral dates back to the 12th century. It is famous for its carved choir stalls dating from about 1489.
While the medieval glass was destroyed by Parliamentary troops during the English Civil War, the carvings survived.
