Police sealed off a York road following reports of a ‘distressed’ man with a gun.

Officers and a fire crew went to a house in Monkton Road at 4.20pm on Tuesday (November 27) after mental health professionals asked them for assistance.

Because the man was said to making threats and believed to be in possession of a firearm, armed officers were part of the response.

They sealed off both ends of Monkton Road.

The incident was brought to a conclusion at about 1am. A man was arrested and taken to hospital.

Earlier a North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said:

  • The safety of everyone involved is our priority and as a precaution, properties either side of the house have been evacuated and a cordon has been put in place while officers work to bring the incident to a conclusion.

We thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while we deal with the incident.
