Armed police were called out to York Station this afternoon.
Police with firearms were seen in the concourse at the railway station.
They are believed to be officers from North Yorkshire Police, although the force has yet to confirm this to YorkMix.
Several armed officers were involved, arriving at the station in unmarked cars.
At the same time, a special contingent of British Transport Police were also at York Station carrying out a separate operation.
It involved their County Lines Taskforce and dog unit.
A BTP spokesperson said: “Its aim is to tackle county lines activity on the railway and identify and safeguard vulnerable individuals exploited in this crime type. As part of the operation, officers deployed a number of specialist resources including a metal detection arch and a drugs detection dog – PD Bella.

“Also in attendance were charities Railway Children, The Children’s Society and City of York Council. The Taskforce was also promoting the Look Closer campaign to rail staff and those working at retailers within the vicinity of the station’s grounds.
“The campaign encourages the public to look closer for the signs of child exploitation and report any concerns to us, either by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40.”
The spokesperson confirmed that armed officers were not deployed as part of this intervention.
We will update if we hear back from North Yorkshire Police.
