People with ideas to make Selby a better place to live can now apply for a £500 business grant.
A new project is offering the cash to the town’s next social entrepreneurs.
A social entrepreneur is somebody with a business idea that will benefit a disadvantaged, isolated or marginalised community.
The Hyve project, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity fund, is a partnership between North Yorkshire Council and York consultancy Social Vision.
Social Vision founder Joe Gardham said: “Everybody has an idea for a business, but most of us lack the time, money or confidence to make it reality.
“Our small grants will provide a little injection of cash for you to buy the necessary equipment or services to test your idea.
“We’re looking for 25 people in the Selby area who are interested in exploring their idea with no financial risk.”
The project follows a six-month feasibility study conducted by Social Vision to look into the potential of three North Yorkshire towns.
That revealed “Selby is a real hotbed of social entrepreneurial activity,” said Joe.
