Have you seen them? CCTV footage of a man and woman York police want to trace

Issued by North Yorkshire Police

Police in York have issued CCTV images of a man and woman as part of enquires into the theft of a bank card and £1,000 of fraudulent transactions.

The incident occurred on Friday 26 April 2013 and has been subject to extensive enquiries including the analysis of CCTV footage in the city.

The victim, a 33-year-old man from Northallerton, had his Barclays bank card stolen from his wallet while working in the railway offices on Toft Green, York.

During a five-hour period the same day, the bank card was fraudulently used to amass £1,000 worth of purchases, starting at Micklegate Bar Muse at 11.16am; Greggs at 11.19am; JD Sports at 11.22am; Sports Direct at 11.42am; Debenhams at 2.24pm; Marks and Spencer at 2.48pm and two further transactions at Top Shop at 2.57pm and 3.04pm.

Each of the purchases was signed for rather than using a chip and PIN.

The CCTV images of the man and woman were taken from within Marks and Spencer.

PC Nicola Elliot, of the York City and East Safer Neighbourhood Team, is leading the investigation. She is urging people to come forward as soon as possible if they recognise either of the individuals.

She said: “A great deal of effort has been put into the investigation so far and I am hopeful that the release of the CCTV images of the man and woman will help to progress the case.

“If you think you may know who they are or have possibly seen them in York or elsewhere in North Yorkshire, please do the right thing and contact the police without delay.

“If you would prefer not to give your name, please pass information to the independent charity Crimestoppers.”

If you can help, please call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for Nicola Elliot, or email her.
