The leader of the free world is coming to the UK next week – and not everybody’s happy at the prospect.
The state visit of Donald Trump takes place from Monday to Wednesday next week (3-5 June). But before that there’s a demonstration against the US President in York city centre tomorrow (Saturday 1 June).
York Together Against Trump is a two-hour demonstration and march againt both the man and what he stands for.
It has been organised by York Stand Up To Racism, who say:
-
This demonstration isn’t just about Trump as one man.
He is a symbol of the new far right, a politics of islamophobia and anti-semitism, of climate chaos, war and division, and walls and fences that are growing around the world.
We stand together opposed to all this and more, and in solidarity with those who are fighting back, here, in the US and around the world.
The demo is scheduled for St Helen’s Square between noon and 2pm.
North Yorkshire Police say: “We expect the protest to be peaceful and well mannered.
“Depending on the number who attend some streets may become busy.
“We ask all businesses and residents in the city centre to be aware of this event and make contingencies where applicable.”
