A media giant has flicked a switch today which allows hundreds more York residents to connect to ultrafast broadband.
Virgin Media O2 has announced it has connected more than 1,500 additional homes in Rawcliffe to its gigabit network.
It means residents can sign up for various broadband services, the fastest being Gig1.
It offers top speeds of 1,130Mbps – ideal for busy households working remotely, streaming TV shows and films, video calling friends and family and playing games online.
Christopher Matthews of Virgin Media O2, said: “With speeds 20 times faster than local average, we’re making it easier than ever for thousands more people in York to keep connected to the people and things they love.”
City of York Council’s Cllr Nigel Ayre, executive member for finance and performance, said: “Over the past few years, the city has seen millions of pounds of public and private sector investment to increase connectivity across York, playing a crucial role in creating a future-ready digital city.
“This has had many benefits, helping to attract businesses and also has provided the infrastructure to help people to work from home efficiently over the course of the pandemic.”
