A tour combining two of the world’s favourite indulgences has launched in York.
York’s Chocolate Story’s new Chocolate and Gin Tour is an adults-only experience that promises to tantalise your tastebuds and expand your knowledge, in a fun and interactive setting.
This evening leads guests on a 90-minute guided tasting journey through the rich histories and flavours of both delicious treats.
Running each Friday from 5pm until 6:30pm, this experience is ideal for an after-work treat and is sure to heat up those gloomy winter nights approaching.
Visitors can sample four premium gins, each paired with a selection of chocolate, whilst being guided through the immersive journey of historic tales.
York’s Chocolate Story have collaborated with The Hooting Owl Distillery for this event, who recently won a 3 star Great Taste Award for their London Dry Gin.
YorkMix spoke to Ebony, who looks after Hooting Owl’s marketing. She said: “Gin and chocolate is just the perfect match. The tour guides are great, the chocolate tastes amazing, and the gin is unreal!”
One of the pairings the evening offers include Hooting Owl’s Signature Gin, accompanied with a taste of Rowntree’s first ever chocolate. A celebration of York’s confectionary heritage.
Throughout the tour, guests witness the magic of chocolate making, as chocolatiers demonstrate how to create gin-infused and fruity chocolate truffles. Don’t worry, you can try them too!
One of the more hands-on segments of the tour allows guests to pipe their own chocolate mediant, decorated with delicious additions such as honeycomb and chocolate shavings.
The tokens can be taken home as a souvenir, or enjoyed on the way out…
YorkMix spoke to Stuart Wood, General Manager at York’s Chocolate Story, at the launch of the collaboration.
He described the tour as “another addition to our premium experiences here at York’s chocolate story, where guests can try some chocolate and enjoy some gin.
“It’s great to be putting something out for the adult market, for people to enjoy on an evening.”
When asked what his stand-out part of the tour was, he told YorkMix: “it’s definitely the chocolate making at the end, but people always critique me for mine, as they did this evening!”
