An exciting new street project is coming to York – and they want you to get involved

A new street literature project is coming to York in August 2021, and here’s how you can get involved.

Titled You Are Here, it will be a series of creative installations as everyday stories told by the people of York. The project will feature eye-catching text displays which aims to capture people’s positive memories of specific locations.

It is led by arts project manager Leonie Hertig and global artistic collective Found Fiction.

‘You Are Here’ will celebrate the personal histories of public spaces in the city – expect to see installations pop up from city centre clubs to cul-de-sac corners!

Steve Clarkson, founder of Found Fiction, said: “With this project we want to make people feel good in ordinary places they visit every day. From your local grocery shop to the bridge you cross on your walk to work, you might think you know some places like the back of your hand – but there are hidden personal histories in every place — and that’s exactly what we’ll be capturing here.”

‘You Are Here’ combines community project with digital event. Each installation will feature the project name and logo, a summary of the story, and a call to action encouraging passers by to scan a QR code or type in a URL.

Following this QR code or link will lead to a webpage where the complete story can be read (think Humans of New York style). There will be a digital map to follow.
