The North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s Annual Steam Gala returns – and features a full steam locomotive programme.
Steam has returned to the popular heritage railway, after recent fire restrictions had North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) temporarily withdrawing their steam engines.
The gala will feature a line-up of over a dozen locomotives, and will also feature a beer festival, trade stalls and demonstrations.
The Annual Steam Gala runs from Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 September.
Laura Strangeway, director of corporate services and deputy CEO at NYMR, said: “This summer has been a challenging one, with the dry weather sparking a number of lineside fires.
“The recent rain has reduced the fire risk sufficiently to allow us to bring steam back as part of a phased approach, guided by the North York Moors National Park.
“This also means that we can confirm that [the] gala will live up to its billing and be a true celebration of steam locomotives.”
Some of the locomotives making an appearance at the gala are the BR Standard 5 No.73156, the LNER A4 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ No. 60007 and No. 85 Taff Vale Railway Class 02.
Adult single day tickets are priced at £45, with two-day, three-day, and four-day options also available.
