A four-car crash saw one casualty rushed to hospital in the Yorkshire Air Ambulance today (Wednesday).
Emergency services were called to the collision on the A169 near RAF Fylingdales at 7.46am.
Fire crews from Pickering, Whitby, Malton and Goathland attended.
They rescued a man and a woman by cutting through the roof of two cars. Both were taken to hospital, one in the air ambulance, the other by road.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A third car left the road taking evasive action which resulted in no injuries or persons trapped.
“However the fourth vehicle involved also had a person described as walking wounded. They exited the car by themselves.”
The road was closed for several hours between Pickering and Whitby while 999 crews worked at the scene.
Local diversions were put in place and police asked HGVs to avoid the area.
It has since reopened.
