Update: Biker, 18, dies in crash on the A19

The A19 will stay shut for several more hours after a crash between a car and a motorbike this morning (Monday).

Paramedics called police to the collision at 6.20am near Thirsk, close to the Low Lane turn-off to Coxwold and Thirkleby.

The road was closed between Great Thirkleby and Carlton Husthwaite for several hours, reopening at around 12.30pm.

North Yorkshire Police asked motorists to avoid the area. A spokesperson said: “The road is expected to be closed for several hours.

“An investigation has been launched.”

Anyone who has witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Force Control Room on 101 and quote reference number NYP-27092021-0052.
