UPDATED: A19 remains closed southbound near Northallerton after a serious collision involving a lorry

Emergency services have been dealing with a serious HGV collision on southbound carriageway of the A19 about one mile from the Osmotherley junction.

The A19 was closed in both directions between the A684 (Northallerton) and the A172 (Cleveland Tontine)

The northbound carriageway was then opened again but the southbound remains shut.

Avoid the area if you can.

Fire Appliances from Cleveland Fire Brigade (Coulby Newham and Thornaby) along with two from Northallerton and Ripon attended the single vehicle collision involving a HGV.

The HGV left the carriageway and then jackknifed, One male driver was rescued by crews.

They then assisted in making the vehicle and scene safe.

Crews used Hydraulic cutters, hydraulic ram, small tools and sharps protection.
