Two very different York businesses are set to be converted into holiday lets.
A planning application has been submitted to City of York Council asking to convert Zills Mediterranean Restaurant at 19 Gillygate into a holiday home.
This would involve minimal changes to the ground floor of the three storey building, except for the addition of a shower room and WC.

Planning documents state: “Originally 19 and 21 Gillygate operated as a 12 bedroom guest house. In 2001 part of No 19 changed into a restaurant (known as Vine Leaf).
“In 2009 permission was granted to turn the building into two dwellings, but this was not implemented.
“The letting rooms were let to students until 2015, after which the premises were occupied as holiday accommodation. Latterly the ground floor has been used as a restaurant.”
Zills was a 30 cover restaurant which won a 2020 Travellers’ Choice award from TripAdvisor.
It was run alongside The Minster Hub Accommodation, which has six bedrooms, by Kurt and Karen Guzelkabaagac.
The business was put up for a ten year lease by Christie & Co with a combined asking rent of £50,000 per annum.

Meanwhile, in a separate planning application, the Yorkshire Mesmac office on Marygate Lane is set to be turned into holiday accommodation.
Yorkshire Mesmac is one of the oldest and largest sexual health organisations in the country, but its Marygate Lane office has been unused and vacant for the past three years.
“The proposed change of use to a holiday let will bring this disused building back to life whilst providing new visitor accommodation in the heart of the city,” say planning documents.
It would be converted into a downstairs living area and kitchen, with bedroom and shower room upstairs.
The application says: “Existing single glazed timber windows will be replaced with more thermally efficient uPVC and internal works will create the necessary living accommodation.
“Two existing car spaces at rear of the building will be retained.”
