It was a night to remember at the Grand Opera House York last night!
The legendary Dame Judi Dench took to the York stage last night (Thursday), in a special show that celebrated the story of her life – from her childhood in York in the 1930s to her latest Oscar nomination in 2022.
Dame Judi was joined on stage by Gyles Brandreth, and performed to a packed auditorium of excited fans who had traveled from near and far.
In this momentous evening, Dame Judi shared anecdotes of her incredible career on stage and screen – as well as a sprinkling of sonnets and songs.
Audience member, Alison, who watched the show from the Ambassador Box, said: “She is such an amazing lady. A true legend and a night to remember.
“Judi and Gyles are so natural and comfortable together with such warmth. We felt very honoured and lucky to be here.”
And to mark the memorable event, Grand Opera House York has dedicated a seat to York’s superstar.
The dedication reads:
York’s celebrated star of stage and screen, Dame Judi Dench, performed here 10 October 2024
The special seat is A9 in the Dress Circle and was chosen by Dame Judi herself. It’s also the very first seat dedication at the venue since the theatre was refurbished in 2022.
Last night will certainly be an evening to remember for a long time to come, and be sure to look out for the special gold plaque when you next visit the Grand Opera House!
