Plans for 119 apartments and a community venue to be built on part of the former Heworth gasworks site have been submitted.
Work to clear the site has taken place during the past six months, with the main gas holder structure recently removed.
In total, 607 apartments are set to be built. The site has been split up into zones and a detailed planning application has now been put forward for zone A next to the junction of Heworth Green and Eboracum Way.
It includes two five-storey apartment buildings of 119 total flats and a 130sqm ground floor unit that could be used as a shop or a community hub.
The redevelopment of the nine-acre site near the city centre has already been given outline planning permission for hundreds of new homes – with more detailed plans for each part of the site set to be submitted in the coming months.
‘A major landmark’
The scheme is managed by Moda Living, Heworth Green Developments and North Star.
A North Star spokesperson said: “Since we received outline planning permission we have made great progress with remediation work on the site and the submission of the details of the new buildings is a major landmark for this fantastic project.
“We are very excited to deliver our vision for a new community and high quality new homes through the landscape-led masterplan.”
When completed the development is set to have a gym, coffee shop, meditation space, children’s play area, a ‘hot desk space’ for residents to work from home, sky lounge and small parks.
The plans for zone A include 45 parking spaces and 128 bike parking stands.
Trees along the boundary of the zone will be kept.
The application concludes: “The proposal is a unique opportunity to create a new neighbourhood and reconnecting existing communities by redeveloping and cleaning up a contaminated brownfield site, which has lain vacant for over a decade, for much needed housing.”
