It only began trading in March.
But already York Gin has its first top award. It brought home a gold medal at the People’s Drinks Awards, for its cat and castle branding.
That follows a silver medal in the Gin Masters this summer.
In a statement, the awards said: “We had more entrants and more judges than ever and competition was tight. We only give out seven awards each year.”
And it’s a fantastic boost for the city’s first ever gin distillery as it heads into Christmas.
Brilliant award
The award is judged solely by the general public – which means the York Gin brand is flying the flag for the city far and wide.

We think this is a brilliant award for the city, as well as for York Gin.
Our brand reflects our motto – ‘history in the tasting’ – and everything about the brand says York. From the cat – one of the city’s chief emblems – to the sturdy bottles and the walls.
The company is enjoying a busy first Christmas, with gift packs and bottles flying off the shelves and from their St Nicholas Fair hut on St Sampson’s Square.
