A brand-new York newspaper is about to hit the streets.
“Community-based weekly” the York Herald will publish for the first time this Friday (June 10) and then every Friday afterwards.
With a cover price of 75p, the York Herald is the city’s first new paid-for newspaper in decades.
The estimated weekly readership of the new title is put at 18,000.
That is based on a circulation of 10,000, with 4,000 paid-for copies sold, and 6,000 delivered free to selected addresses in the first week of launch.
As well as serving the city, the tabloid will go to Bilbrough in the west, Elvington in the East, Strensall in the north and Riccall to the south.

Within its minimum of 56 pages, content will include:
- a round-up of York news from the week
- ‘Down Your Way’ nostalgia content
- village news
- art and leisure articles
- recipe and puzzle pages
- and grass-root sport.
Aimed at infrequent readers of the York Press, the targeted readers are over 45 years old.
Advertisers can book everything from a full-page advert from £262.50 to an eighth-page ad from £31.50.
The launch revives the York Herald title which first appeared on the city’s streets in 1790, before being merged with the Yorkshire Gazette to create the Gazette & Herald in 1954.
Unlike the earlier version, the new one comes with its own online presence at yorkherald.co.uk.
