It was the cult movie which became a record-breaking hit when transferred to the West End stage – and this year it comes to York.
The producers brought a sneak preview of the new show to York, and YorkMix was there to capture it on film.
So why is it so popular? Producer Karl Sydow said:
They want to be in the room with Baby and Johnny – they want to be there while she’s carrying her watermelon and not being put in the corner.
It’s a great feel good show.
When first adapted for the London stage, Dirty Dancing had the highest sale of advance tickets in West End history, taking £6 million.
The updated 2016 musical, featuring the songs Hungry Eyes, Hey! Baby, Do You Love Me? and, of course, (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life follows two blockbuster West End runs and two hit UK tours.

The new creative team behind the show includes director Federico Bellone, artistic director of Milan’s Teatro Nazionale.
It is choreographed by Gillian Bruce and the set is created by top Italian designer Roberto Cometti.
Of course the climax of the show is Time Of My Life, featuring the iconic run-and-lift. Audiences always give “a phenomenal response” to that moment, Karl said.
