Heartwarming? Full of Christmas spirit? Not any more…
The John Lewis Christmas ad has been given a sinister makeover by York filmmaker Jamie McKeller from Redshirt Films and it’s already gained nearly 20,000 views on YouTube alone.
Jamie’s parody of the Man In The Moon advert begins with a voiceover:
Someone from school? Someone from the playground?
She said… ‘Further away’
And it gets creepier from there.
It has gone down well with YouTube commenters who said:
Why aren’t you the head marketing director at John Lewis???
Good job guys. Much better advert. 🙂
‘Quite disturbing’
Jamie has form on this. Last year, his Stupid Penguin spoof of the John Lewis festive advertisement clocked up more than 300K views.
So what gave him the inspiration this time?
“I just got up early, drank a lot of coffee was quite unnerved when the advert went live,” he told YorkMix. “Even the original cut is pretty disturbing!”
Jamie said the film had already brought in another 50 subscribers to his YouTube channel, which include videos from his web series like vampire comedy I Am Tim and Dungeons And Dragons epic Nights At The Round Table.
What next for RedShirt Films?
“2016 is most likely going to be the last year of RedShirt Films operating mostly online,” Jamie said.
“I set out to educate myself, and over the last five years I’ve done that and I feel ready to start looking at other avenues.”
He added:
Unless of course the plan for the next 10 months works beyond expected and brings in 100,000 subscribers. Then we’ll stay!
