Don’t panic – but zombies are walking the streets of York.
The undead were seen in and around Museum Gardens, just days before All Hallows’ Eve. And these photographs captured them in all their gory glory…
Fortunately it turns out this wasn’t the undead invasion we all fear – but some terrifyingly good make up by York-based special effects makeup artist Naomi Naylor.
Naomi, who is one of the team who do the makeup for the actors at Hallowscream, said:
A friend of the family passed away and at his tribute (it was fancy dress because he’d have wanted a fun one) his family wanted to leave his special effects makeup kit with me.
That inspired me to carry on with it so I decided to get some models (my dad and two friends) and make them zombies!
She arranged the photoshoot with Ste Dunn of Prince Wor Creative Photography, based in Washington, Tyne and Wear.
Naomi created these zombies mainly with latex and alcohol activated face paints.
She said York makes for a backdrop “because it already has the ‘scary’ look about it with all the ruins and beautiful old buildings”.
And our reputation for being the most haunted city in Europe means we’re made of strong stuff.
Naomi said few people batted an eyelid when confronted with these grotesques wandering the city…
