Things to do

Six local bands are getting national airplay this week as their talents are showcased on BBC Radio 1.

They are being played on the Huw Stephens Show, which goes out at 10pm on weeknights.

This amazing opportunity comes about via Radio York’s BBC Introducing show, presented by Jericho Keys.

He gives airplay to North Yorkshire bands every week and was asked to pick half a dozen for broadcast on Huw’s Radio 1 show.

The first two were heard on Monday night (October 5), two more are played tonight (October 6) and the final pair on Wednesday (October 7).

Jericho said:

North Yorkshire bands are getting played on BBC Radio 1 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week…

Upload your tunes to my show and this is what can happen!

This is who Jericho and his expert guests picked for UK-wide exposure…

Monday: Skinner and Leo James Conroy

Skinner, Dangerous Game

Skinner is an electronic pop artist from Harrogate, polluting her music with a dash of her r’n’b/hip-hop/soul influences and her powerful and potent voice.

Jericho describes her sound as “sassy, soulful and sexy”.

Leo James Conroy, Forbidden Fruit

York singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Soon bound permanently for LA after a successful six-month tour of the US.

Tuesday: King No One and A Joker’s Rage

King No One, Constellations

Indie band from York featuring Zach Lount, Joe Martin, James Basile and Alex Townsley.

“This is only the beginning for King No One, I’m tipping them for big things” – Jericho Keys.

A Joker’s Rage, Bounce

The choice of Dom Smith, editor of Soundsphere. York’s face painted rockers
(think Zappa meets Faith No More), A Joker’s Rage have completed two tours of France, UK and a few dates in the USA.

Wednesday: And The Hangnails, Scott Quinn

And The Hangnails, You & I

This DIY punk duo from York were Jericho’s choice. They are Martyn Fillingham (guitar/ vocals) and Ste Reid (drums).

Scott Quinn, Coming Home

The 22-year-old producer from Harrogate produced his debut release Lust Game EP entirely from home.

Scott plays the piano, bass and guitar, and sings. He was the choice of Billie Martin.
