Murder investigation launched after man stabbed to death in York

York police have launched a murder inquiry after a man was stabbed to death on Monday night (July 27).

Officers were called to a house on Hamilton Drive West in Acomb, York, at around 10.20pm, following reports of a disturbance. They found a man with multiple stab wounds.

He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Another man, aged 29, was found injured in the street by a member of the public. He was treated in hospital and discharged in the early hours of Tuesday morning (July 28).

The 29-year-old was “was not involved in the initial disturbance and was a passer-by who came to the assistance those involved,” police said.

Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the incident. He suffered a self-inflicted injury and is receiving hospital treatment.

Detectives from North Yorkshire Police’s Major Crime Unit and York Serious Crime Team are carrying out extensive enquiries to determine the events that led to the murder.

They are still conducting enquiries to establish the identity of the man who died, and are unable to release any further information about him.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Walker said:

The incident has caused concern to local people but I would like to offer some reassurance to them that the suspect was quickly arrested at the scene and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Our enquiries remain ongoing today and there will be a police presence in the area while we continue to investigate and gather evidence from the scene.

Hamilton Drive West was closed as the initial investigation took place, but has since reopened.

Det Ch Walker thanked local people “for their patience and understanding while we deal with the incident”.

He added:

In particular, I would like to express our thanks to the member of the public who came to the aid of one of the victims.

Anyone who witnessed anything of the incident or has any other information that could help our investigation, I urge you to get in touch.

Continued police presence

Officers are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Hamilton Drive, Acomb, on Monday night, and saw or heard at disturbance, either from inside the property or in the street outside, to contact them.

Detective Inspector Mark Pearson, of the Major Crime Unit, said:

We continue to work at the scene of the murder and there will be a continued police presence in Acomb as we gather evidence from the scene and continue our house-to-house enquiries.

I would like to reiterate that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the murder.
