Bogus window cleaner targets York with doorstep demands for cash

York residents are being targeted by cold callers asking for cash to clean their windows.

Police believe a number of people in Huntington have been approached at home by the bogus window cleaners.

They are asking anyone who has been contacted in this way – or has seen an “incident in progress” – to contact them.

Police are also investigating a sneak-in burglary in the Old Village, Huntington, during which cash was stolen from a wallet.

The theft happened between 10am and noon on Sunday (July 26). Officers are urging residents to be on their guard and ensure they keep their doors locked, even when they are at home.

The news comes as Operation Joypad arrives in Huntington.

This sees officers from the York North Safer Neighbourhood Team carrying out high-visibility patrols and physically checking properties to ensure they are secure.

Hundreds of properties have already been checked, and when an insecure property is identified, officers contact the homeowner and provide suitable crime prevention advice.
