It’s the first Saturday of Knavesmire racing in 2015, and YorkMix tipster Dick Turpin has been around the stables for the latest inside information.
He’s a man of few words is our Dick, but he dropped by the office long enough to stand and deliver his betting suggestions, and to say that he has heard a strong word for Red Baron in the day’s big race, the Spring Sprint (2.55pm).
Neil Farley’s mount has everything going for him, except the draw! From stall 3, it will be a very close run thing, with the likeliest danger coming from the favourably high-drawn Lexi’s Hero, Richard Fahey’s last-time-out winner, coming from stall 20.
In the 14-furlong Grand Cup (2.20pm), Turpin also speaks highly of Mick Channon’s stayer, Elidor, who looks to have the measure of Clever Cookie, Big Orange and Times Up.
You’ll have to wait until the last race to get on Turpin’s next best selection. It’s the impressive filly, Breakable, expected to benefit give William Easterby a long-overdue success, riding for his father Tim in the 7-furlong Amateur Riders Stakes.
