Are you a singing superstar? Have you got what it takes to wow will.i.am or stir Sir Tom Jones?

Then get gargling, because The Voice is coming to town.

Although it’s only been six weeks since Stevie McCrorie won the final of the last series, the team behind the hit BBC One talent show are already on the hunt for contestants for series five.

And one of the team will be coming to York looking “for people who have a genuinely fantastic voice”.

On Wednesday (May 20) they will be at The Habit on Goodramgate for its Open Mic night from 8pm “to check out what the local talent has to offer”.

Because of the expected demand, people need to book a slot for The Habit’s open mic night, via organiser David Ward Maclean’s Facebook page.

Then on Thursday (May 21) at 1pm they’ll be at Melrose Yard Studios scouting for talent.

As the producers from programme makers Wall To Wall put it…

Whether you’re a solo artist or a duo, if you’ve got what it takes to get our coaches’ chairs spinning we want to hear from you!

If you think you have what it takes, come down and become part of the search for a superstar.

There are two main rules…

  1. You must be 16 or over by June 17, 2015
  2. You must have the right to live and work in the UK.

York has form

If you make it to the TV shows filmed at Media City in Salford, you will be following in the footsteps of another talented York musician.

Singer songwriter Beth McCarthy was mentored by Kaiser Chiefs’ frontman Ricky Wilson on series three of The Voice.

Beth was certainly positive about the experience. She told YorkMix

It’s just been a really, really amazing experience, there’ve been no negatives.

Since then, Beth has completed two tours of the UK, released a debut single and EP, taken on numerous festivals including Latitude and Green Man, and played support slots with bands such at The Orchestra (formerly ELO), Nizlopi and Shed Seven.

So what’s stopping you?
