Coney Street in York was closed for a short time on Friday morning (January 9) after the high winds damaged roof barriers.
A crew from North Yorkshire Fire Service used an aerial ladder to make the barrier safe before an engineering team assessed the damage. Closed at 9am, the street was reopened at 9.30am.
Shambles Market on Parliament Street was also closed by City of York Council on Friday due to the high winds owing to safety worries. It will not reopen for the rest of the day.
Meanwhile, York police have been called out after trees were blown over, including this one in Mount Vale Drive, off Tadcaster Road. Fortunately, no one was in the car.
The council say that recycling and refuse collections are taking place as normal.
“The high winds mean that although the collection crews are doing their best, there will inevitably be wind blown debris,” a spokesman said.
Street cleaning teams have been redeployed to help clear windblown items in the affected areas.
