The Tales of Hoffman

Fantastical tales and glorious music combine to produce an unforgettable evening. Follow the dreams and desires of ‘Hoffmann’, a poet, as he relates his tales of the women he once loved. Join us on his journey to share in the poet’s stories of deceit, trickery and despair. Is he foolish, perhaps unlucky. Or are there more sinister forces at work. Offenbach’s sumptuous opera is based upon the imaginative stories and tales of the German romantic writer E.T.A. Hoffmann. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to enjoy Offenbach’s entertaining and fantastical final opera. Brought to the stage by York Opera.

YorSchools Film Screening – ‘When We Fight’

The screening is in support of staff from All Saints and St George’s schools – Nicholas Postgate Catholic Academy Trust – who are fighting for the rights of their pupils, and for democracy in education.
In the second largest school district in the United States, 98% of teachers voted to strike. When We Fight goes behind the picket lines, documenting how and why teachers strike and the transformative power of their strikes. The film shadows Los Angeles educators as they campaign and organise, providing a unique first-hand account of collective democracy and labour action, and shedding light on a nationwide teacher strike upswell. The film highlights the stories and leadership of the women at the forefront of those strikes.
