York City legendary goalkeeper, Graeme Crawford, has died at the age of 77 after a long illness.
Crawford made a total of 280 appearances during two stints for the club between 1971 and 1980.
He was a key figure in the 1973/74 promotion-winning team, taking the club into the old second division.
During that campaign Graeme kept a clean sheet in 11 successive games, equalling a Football League record.
He then went on to play in every game in City’s two seasons in the Second Division (now Championship) competing against teams of the calibre of Manchester United, Aston Villa, Fulham and Nottingham Forest.
He has been a season ticket holder at the LNER Community Stadium since the move from Bootham Crescent, along with his grandson, Tom, and could be seen regularly at games chatting with the home supporters.

Graeme was immensely proud to have been asked to become one of the club’s first ambassadors and had attended a number of events up until a few weeks ago.
He leaves behind, his wife, Helen, children, Peter and Lynda and four grandchildren, Tom, Sophie, Isla and Elsie.
Funeral arrangements will be confirmed at a later date.
