A new takeaway cafe has opened in York.
Bar Hashery has opened its doors on Parliament Street today (Friday). This is the fourth location for the business, which has its café serving savoury waffles on Bootham, a kiosk in York train station and its bakery on Micklegate.
The takeaway cafe serves up a range of homemade pastries, cakes, and sandwiches as well as hot and cold drinks – perfect for a treat on the go while shopping in the city centre.
YorkMix spoke with Bar Hashery co-owner, Jolanta Labutyte, to find out more.
The corner building was previously home to the popular Greek cafe Stam & Maria, which closed its doors after five years of trading at the end of 2024.
“It was a goal of ours to expand onto the high street,” Jolanta told YorkMix, “and this corner was always a wish for one day, maybe.
“And finally it is up and running and we hope that everyone will enjoy it here.”

Though the venue is purely takeaway right now, the team have plans to apply for pavement licensing.
“So we’d be able to offer people a sit down outside in the nice sunshine – that’s something we’ve never had and always wished for.”
The reaction to the new location opening has been really positive so far. “People are happy to see us growing,” said Jolanta.
“We treat our customers as our own guests in our home, that’s the motto in all our locations and what we’re known for.”

The Parliament Street location is serving up sandwiches (from £8) with classic fillings like ham and cheese, and mozzarella and tomato, as well as sweet treats like rocky road, millionaires shortbread, cheesecake and cookies.
There are also pastry delights too, such as a cinnamon bun and strawberry custard danish.
“Everything on the counter is made by us. The sandwiches are prepped here in the mornings, and all the baked stuff comes from our bakery on Micklegate.
“Everything is local and organic.”
A selection of hot and cold coffees and teas are available as well as smoothies (£5) including passionfruit storm and avo go go, and fresh juices (£5.50).
Bar Hashery on Parliament Street will be open every day and is trialling an opening time of 7:30am to 5pm or 6pm in the evening “depending on the crowd.”
“If you see us in here, just come in and we’ll serve you anyway – even if the sign’s flipped around already!”
