Police have tonight released an update on their investigation into the death of a woman in York.
As we reported yesterday, officers were called to a home on Albert Street, near Walmgate, yesterday morning.
They sealed off the street and said they were investigating the death of a woman in her 60s which they described as suspicious.
A 53-year-old man was arrested as part of their enquiries.
Police were still at the property this morning, with a smaller cordon still in place.
Tonight (Friday) North Yorkshire Police issued this statement: “Following extensive enquiries into the death of a 61-year-old woman at an address on Albert Street in York that was reported at 11.26am on Thursday (8 May 2025), detectives have confirmed that it was not suspicious.
“A 53-year-old man arrested in connection with the investigation has been released with no further action required.


“A report into the death is being prepared for the coroner. The woman’s family is being supported.
“We thank the local community for their assistance and understanding.”
The cordon has now been lifted.
